Leonard Jones
Year: 2016

Leonard Jones was the first principal of Riverwood High School. In the summer of 1971, the superintendent of schools tapped Jones to open the newest high school in Sandy Springs. Over the next 15 years, Principal Jones impacted the lives of hundreds of students, teachers, and families. His leadership style, his concern for the staff and students, and his desire to continually improve the school made him loved by all. Although he left Riverwood to take over as the Athletic Director for the Fulton County School System, he returned briefly to serve as an interim principal.

Prior to opening the new school, Jones was at North Springs High School. While at Sparta, he served as the head football coach for six years. Under his leadership, the Spartans won the Football State Title in 1969 and captured two region championships.

The Raiders inducted Jones to the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016.
