January 30, 2018
Dear Riverwood Families,

I appreciate your patience over the past several months as we conducted a thorough search for our next Head Football Coach. Our Athletic Director, Mike Mezzio, and I have remained committed to finding the very best to coach these young men.

I'm excited to announce that Robert Edwards is being hired as our Head Football Coach and will begin working with students immediately. Additionally, we plan to hire Coach Edwards as a teacher at Riverwood next year.

Coach Edwards was most recently the Head Football Coach at Greene County High School for the past six years where his teams made four playoff appearances. Previously, Coach Edwards served as Head Football Coach at Arlington Christian School. Additionally, he serves as the Leading Running Back Coach for Football University National, has served as the Offensive Coordinator for the Georgia East-West All Star team, Running Back Coach for the Army All-American Bowl and Running Back Coach for the Rising Seniors All Star Game. In addition to his coaching duties he has served as a Sports Commentator for the SEC Wrap Up Show on CBS.

Coach Edwards played Running Back at the University of Georgia from 1993-1997 and was a 1st Round Draft Pick by the New England Patriots in 1998. Additionally, he played for the Miami Dolphins and in the Canadian Football League. He was selected for the NFL All Rookie Team and NFL Award for Community Service in 1999, the NFL Come Back Player of the Year in 2000, and inducted to the Georgia-Florida Hall of Fame in 2001.

I feel confident that Robert Edwards will be successful on the football field and in mentoring young men at Riverwood. His personal experiences of overcoming adversity and connections at the college level will most certainly serve as assets to our school community. We will be announcing meet and greet opportunities in the coming days to give you an opportunity to welcome Coach Edwards to the Raider family. Lastly, I'd like to thank Coach Lance Riccio for his hard work as Interim Head Coach during this transition.

Warm regards,

Charles W. Gardner, Ed.S Proud Principal
