Girls Basketball Secures 2018 State Berth

The Varsity Girls Basketball team won their first game in the 2018 Region 6-AAAAA Tournament, securing a spot in the State Tournament for the first time in more than six years.

On Wednesday, February 7, the Lady Raiders traveled to Lithia Springs, hosts of this year's Region championships, to take on North Springs. Holding the #4 seed going into the tournament, the Lady Raiders had a bye for the first round. This was the third meeting of the season with the Lady Spartans and, having already won the first two meetings, the Lady Raiders were working hard for a sweep as well as a guaranteed spot in the State tournament. (As a side note:  North Springs defeated the Lady Raiders in last year's Region tournament, ending their season). Fortunately, Wednesday's convincing 53-41 win reversed last year's loss, marked a three-game sweep of the Lady Spartans, secured a State berth, and allows them to continue their post-season run.

Region 6-AAAAA Tournament play continues Friday, February 9 vs. Jackson, the #1 seed.
Tip-off at Lithia Springs is 7pm.
The final four teams each earn a spot in the 2018 State tournament which begins February 16 (view or download the GHSA State Class AAAAA Girls Bracket).
