Lady Raiders beat North Springs 16-9

Girls Lacrosse hosted neighborhood rivals North Springs Tuesday afternoon, March 8, 2016. With their 16-9 victory, the Lady Raiders improved their record to 2-2 and are now ranked in the Class AAAAA Lax Power Top 20 for the first time in three seasons.

Seniors Caroline Sweetin and McKenzie Lewis blitzed the Spartans with 14 goals. Also scoring were Freshman Daisy Leepson and Junior Olivia Sullivan. Leepson and Sullivan notched crucial goals as the Lady Raiders pulled away from their 8-6 halftime lead. Sophomore Ansley Sweetin added to the offensive show with her outstanding passing. Significantly, the Lady Raiders had more assists in this game than they had all of last year.

Anchoring the defense, Junior Goalie Helen Derrick had 17 saves and allowed only three goals in the second half. The defense is beginning to pull together with Sophomore duo Savanna Brooks and Jatoria Shaw leading the way. Shaw, a raw recruit when the year began, and Brooks are showing speed and tenacity.

Next, the Lady Raiders host Pebblebrook Thursday, March 10, 2016. Game time is 5:55pm at Hoskyn Stadium.
