Due to a shortage of umpires available on March 17 to officiate girls lacrosse, all non-area matches were cancelled and the Lady Raiders could not play their scheduled game vs. South Cobb. With weather forecasters predicting doom and gloom Thursday afternoon, it looked as if the Lady Raiders would also forgo another game. Fortunately, the horrible thunderstorms bypassed Sandy Springs and the girls were able to play, although it was a bit rainy.
The Lady Raiders, missing three starters, rallied to a 14-13 home victory against Forsyth Central on Thursday, March 24, 2016. With less than five minutes remaining in the game, Junior Olivia Sullivan fed a beautiful looping pass to Junior Midfielder Aubrey Pritchett. Pritchett found the back of the net to put the Lady Raiders ahead by one. The defense shut down the Lady Bulldogs in the final few minutes to secure the victory. Seniors Caroline Sweetin and McKenzie Lewis provided the rest of the scoring; Sweetin had eight goals and two assists; Lewis had five goals.
Freshman Mary Mac Birkel had her first Varsity start in goal. Birkel ended up with 12 saves on the night. Freshmen Sydnie Bullock and Daisy Leepson helped anchor the defense, while Sophomores Jatoria Shaw and Savanna Brooks made several important plays to help keep the game close.
The Lady Raiders have three games remaining on the schedule. The next game is a trip across the highway to Holy Innocents' on Monday, March 28. Game time is 5pm.
