The Girls Lacrosse team travelled across the highway to play Holy Innocents' Monday afternoon, March 28. Over the past few years, the Golden Bears have been building a powerhouse Girls Lacrosse program and they are currently third in the Area standings. The Lady Raiders, holding a 4-3 season record going into the day, were excited to face their neighborhood rivals and certainly played up to the level of the competition. Holy Innocents' prevailed 22-18.
Senior McKenzie Lewis had her highest scoring outburst of the year to lead the Lady Raiders with eight goals. In addition to Lewis, five other players contributed to the scoring, which is an encouraging trend. Sophomore Ansley Sweetin netted three tough points; Senior Grace Geyer and Junior Aubrey Pritchett each scored twice; Senior Caroline Sweetin and Freshman Daisy Leepson each tallied one goal.
Junior goalie Helen Derrick anchored the developing Lady Raider defense with a 20-save game. The defense, which started two freshmen and two sophomores, helped keep the game close.
The team has one more game on the schedule before Spring Break begins. The Lady Raiders travel to the Pace Academy athletics complex near Mableton for a Wednesday afternoon, March 30 contest. Game time is 5pm.
