The Girls Lacrosse team played their final match before 2016 Spring Break on Wednesday afternoon, March 30. It was a road trip for the Lady Raiders as they traveled to the Pace Academy Knights' expansive riverside athletics complex in Mableton.
Coming off a high-scoring and high-intensity contest at Holy Innocents' Monday, the Lady Raiders overcame their fatigue and fought a fierce see-saw battle against Pace and emerged with a 12-10 victory.
Switching Freshman Daisy Leepson from defense to the attack position made a significant difference to the Lady Raider offense. Leepson's four goals, combined with consistent contributors Seniors McKenzie Lewis and Caroline Sweetin, were key to the win.
Junior Olivia Sullivan replaced Leepson on defense, giving the Lady Raiders a boost with her experienced ball handling skills. Junior goalie Helen Derrick was the defensive star of the game with 28 saves. Many of her saves were one-on-one, and several were quite spectacular. Derrick now holds a season save percentage of near 60%, one of the best ratios in the State.
The win moves the Lady Raiders' season record to 4-4.
Following Spring Break, only one game remains on the schedule. The Lady Raiders host Campbell Wednesday, April 13 when they will also honor their Class of 2016 teammates. The Senior Night game time is 5pm.
