Girls Tennis Deco-Turf Tournament in Tennessee

The Girls Tennis team traveled to Chattanooga, Tennessee to participate in the 2017 DecoTurf High School Tennis Team Championships. The national invitational high school tennis tournament welcomed 24 girls teams from across the southeast for a two-day, non-elimination format competition.

The Lady Raiders finished fifith in the tournament, losing only one head-to-head match. The loss came on Friday night vs. Sacred Heart of Louisville, Kentucky. The Lady Raiders lost 4-3 in the quarter finals in a 10-point tiebreaker, 10-8.

On Saturday, the Lady Raiders beat St. George's High School of Memphis, Tennessee, 5-2, and then beat Tennessee High School of Bristol, Tennessee, 4-3, to take 5th place overall.  

The Lady Raiders return to Atlanta and resume Region 6-AAAAA competition Tuesday, March 28 vs. Grady at Piedmont Park (view schedule)


Tournament Notes:

Junior Elizabeth Goines won six out of six matches. She won all three of her singles matches at #1 singles. Goines and Junior Rachel Staley teamed up to win all of their matches at # 1 doubles as well.

Senior Mia Hodges won all three of her doubles matches with Freshman Anais Acree at #3 doubles. Hodges won one singles match at #2 singles.  The only singles matches she lost were in third set tiebreakers.

Senior Lilly Blumenthal won two of three of her singles matches at #3 singles. Blumenthal won one doubles match with Senior Sarah Peljovich at #2 doubles.

Senior Sarah Peljovich also won all of her singles matches at #5 singles.
