Lady Raiders 3rd in Region 6-AAAAA; Qualify for State

The Girls Cross Country team finished third at the 2017 Region 6-AAAAA Championship, earning their sixth consecutive trip to the State Championships. The Lady Raiders traveled to Boundary Waters Park in Douglasville on Thursday afternoon, October 26 for the region competition and earned the right to return to Carrollton.

Haley Rose of Decatur out-dueled Lady Raider Freshman Elle Mezzio to take the region individual title. Grady's 4-5-6-7 finish led them to the Regional title with 28 points, followed by Decatur with 57 points. The Lady Raiders were right behind the Lady Bulldogs with 63 points; North Springs earned the final state qualifying spot.

Mezzio was second overall; rounding out the team scoring were Junior Lizzie Smith (9th), Senior Celine Al-Noubani (11th, Season Best Time), and Freshmen Tori Williams (15th, Season Best Time), and Madison Lauk (26th, Season Best Time). The JV girls also finished in 3rd place in their team race. Overall, 16 of the 22 Lady Raider harriers set Season Best Times.

The 2017 State Championship is Friday, November 3, at Carrollton High School.. The Class AAAAA Girls race is at 9am.
