Girls XC at Zach Wansley Clash

Girls Take Title at Opening Meet

On August 17th, on a sunny day at Clinton Farms in Villa Rica, the Lady Raiders kicked off their season by winning the Zach Wansley XC Clash in a tight contest beating out traditional powerhouse Lovette 43-48. The team was lead by Freshman Alexa Hoppenfeld who finished 2nd overall with a time of 19:26. Rounding out the scoring for Riverwood were Nina Ouellette (4th/PR), Elle Mezzio (5th), Allison Leffler (11th), and Olivia Novotny (23rd).

Coach Seals was very pleased. "We are way ahead of where I thought we would be starting the season, and that's a tribute to the girls who put in the mileage over the summer. In Alexa, Nina, and Elle, we may have three of the top 10 runners in the state, so this could be a great year. But what I really liked about today was the team spirit we had out there. Every girl in both Varsity and JV race that ran was focused, and this team cheered each other on, and cheered the boys on."

"Alexa ran a great race, she looked like a veteran. She's been competing in Triathlons since she was 10, so I wasn't sure how she would do out there with just a run," Seals joked, "Luckily for us she didn't dive in the lake and start swimming, and after the race she kept saying 'where's my bike?' "
