Girls XC Wins Regional Championship

Girls XC Wins Regional Championship

For the first time in a decade, the Girls Cross Country team are Regional Champions. The team put on a strong performance on October 24th at Boundary Waters Park in Douglasville to literally run away with the Region 6-AAAAA title, finishing with 25 points to Decatur (2nd) and Grady's (3rd) 51 points. The team swept the top three spots, led once again by Junior Elle Mezzio, Freshman Alexa Hoppenfeld and Sophomore Nina Ouellette. Rounding out the scoring for the Raiders were the always dependable Allison Leffler (10th) and the surging Olivia Novatny whose (13th) place finish crushed any hopes for an upset by their regional rivals. The Individual title was Mezzio's first after runner-up finishes the last two years. The Raiders will head to the State Championships in Carrolton on October 31st, looking to make more history.

Coach Seals was thrilled with the performance, "Every girl out here from the top Varsity runner to the final JV runner did their job and ran hard today. I'm very happy and even happier for the girls on this team. This is a special group and will go down as one of my favorite teams of all-time. They earned that trophy today!"
