In an exciting match on Saturday, April 13, the Raiders faced the 2012 State Champions from North Carolina, the Hawks of Charlotte Latin. The Raiders started out hot with several quick goals. Seniors Richard Norman and Christian Wendlandt combined for four goals in the first half. Senior Attackman Reid Schweers added two goals. The Hawks remained steady and chipped away to build a 10-6 halftime lead.
To start the second half, the Raiders again came out firing and made it to within one goal, 11-10. Charlotte Latin's offense responded to the challenge and came back to win 17-11.
As Coach Lou Corsetti remarked afterward "Charlotte Latin had too many weapons. It [the game] was lacrosse the way lacrosse is supposed to be played: back and forth action with all of the players getting involved."
Riverwood was among ten boys teams invited to participate in the Sixth Annual Legacy Lacrosse Cup. Hosted by Milton High School's lacrosse program in memory of a former teammate who died in 2006, boys and girls high school teams from Tennessee and North Carolina joined metro Atlanta teams for a two day event taking place on three different fields. Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern also took part in the weekend, playing each other on Saturday afternoon on the Milton stadium field. Coaches and players attended a dinner at Milton Friday evening with a keynote speaker. Learn more about the Legacy Lacrosse Cup
