Jeff Welp joined the Raider family in 2014 and has quickly turned the Boys Soccer Team into a nationally recognized program. Compiling a 50-9-5 record over the 2015, 2016, and 2017 seasons, Coach Welp led the Boys Soccer team to a State Championship (2016), Region Championship (2016), and two Final Four appearances (2015 & 2016).
2017 Season: The Raiders went 16-4-1 and won their second consecutive Region 6-AAAAA title by going undefeated (7-0) in region play. The team advanced to the third round of the state playoffs before being defeated 0-1 by eventual state champions McIntosh High School. The Raiders finished the season ranked #2 in the AAAAA Georgia State Rankings (Max Preps). Leading goal scorer Victor Miranda was nominated to the All-South Regions Team by the National Association of Soccer Coaches.
2016 Season: The Raiders won their first state championship in 14 years. Among the many highlights was knocking off the #1 ranked team in the nation, Dalton High School, on their way to winning the Region 7-AAAAA Championship. During their state playoff run, the team outscored their opponents 18-1, including a 2-0 win in the Finals over Northgate High School. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America recognized the Raiders as the #10 ranked team in the nation. For his efforts, Coach Welp was awarded the State AAAAA Di-Varsity and Region 7-AAAAA Coach of the Year.
2015 Season: In his inaugural season, the Raiders started with a 17-match unbeaten streak before losing their first game in the Region Championship. The Raiders rebounded, won the next three state playoff matches, and returned to the Final Four for the first time since 2002. The team also set school records in wins (17) and goals scored (71), while also earning a #38 national ranking by Top Drawer Soccer. Coach Welp won the Region 7-AAAAA Coach of the Year.
Previous Seasons: As the Head Boys Soccer Coach at Atlanta International School in 2014, Welp led the Eagles to the State championship. They finished as the State runners-up and the Region 1-A Champions. The team also set a school record for wins and goals scored. Welp was recognized by Di-Varsity as the Class A Boys Coach of the Year. From 2008 to 2013, he served as the Assistant Varsity and JV Coach at Berkmar High School. The Patriots won the 2013 AAAAAA state championship, and were the 2013 Region 8-AAAAAA champions, and 2011 Region 8-AAAAA Champions. Coach Welp also holds a National Diploma License from the NSCAA.
Personal: Coach Welp is a U.S. History and Economics teacher and holds an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). He is married to fellow teacher and soccer player Sara Welp; they have a daughter, Maggie.
