On a bitterly cold Monday afternoon, the Boys Tennis team scored a gritty 3-1 win against neighborhood rivals Holy Innocents'. It was the first home match of the season for the Raiders.
Senior Jacob Marcus paved the way with a blistering 6-1, 6-0 win. Marcus said, "Our team has a bright upside." Asked about his game today in which he recorded five aces, Marcus stated, "My serve was up today." In other singles action, Sophomore Gaurav Kunwar battled in a gut-tester to prevail 6-2, 4-6, 10-7.
The story of the afternoon was the first doubles effort put forth by Juniors Pascal Acree and Michael Roddey. They won the first set 6-3. Down 1-4 in the second set, Acree and Roddey clawed back in to win 7-5. After the match Acree said, "If we play it point by point, the end result will come."
Interviews with fans who ventured near the courts captured comments such as: "It's cold" from Riverwood's Teacher of the Year Brittany Wood. Officer Parker also enjoyed the afternoon commenting, "We look good."
