Congratulations to Junior Boys Tennis player Gaurav Kunwar for winning the 2016 North Fulton Region Positive Athlete of the Year award (Tennis).
Two Raider student athletes won the North Fulton 2016 Positive Athlete of the Year award in their sports: Junior Gaurav Kunwar (Tennis), and Senior Octavious Wright (Swim/Dive).
The 2015-16 school year marks the second year of Riverwood's participation in the Positive Athlete Georgia program. Positive Athlete Georgia hosted an awards ceremony for all of the North Fulton award winners on Wednesday, May 11, 2016.
The other schools in the North Fulton region are: Alpharetta, Blessed Trinity, Brandon Hall, Cambridge, Centennial, Chattahoochee, Johns Creek, Kings Ridge, Milton, Mount Vernon Presbyterian, Mt. Pisgah, Northview, North Springs, Roswell, and Weber.
Positive Athlete Georgia accepted nominations during the school year from parents, teachers, and coaches to recognize student-athletes in 25 different high school sports whose presence and attitude makes a positive impact on their team and school environment. What makes the Positive Athlete Georgia program slightly different from other local and state awards is that nominees are not necessarily the most valuable players as measured by records and statistics, and that parents and teachers may participate in the nomination process.
