The Lady Raiders, the Region 6-AAAAA champions, earned a #1 seed for the 2017 State Tournament.
Following their first round victory against the Loganville Red Devils on April 18, the Lady Raiders welcomed Ware County, the #3 seed from Region 2-AAAAA, to Sandy Springs for second round play.
Even though it rained off-and-on most of the day Monday, April 24, the courts were finally playable later in the afternoon thanks to the determined efforts of Mr. Charles Johnson, a member of the Raider custodial staff. Once the competition began, the Lady Raiders quickly took care of the Lady Gators. Elizabeth Goines and Mia Hodges both won their singles matches 6-0,6-0. Rachel Staley and Sarah Peljovich won their doubles match 6-1,6-2 to clinch the victory. Lilly Blumenthal was leading 6-0,3-0 when the match was called.
The Lady Raiders advance to the Elite Eight to play at Starr's Mill on Wednesday, April 26. Matches begin at 1:30pm. Starr's Mill is the #1 seed from Region 3-AAAAA.
