The Girls Cross Country team traveled to Cartersville for the 2018 Winged Foot Invitational. Held at Sam Smith Park on Saturday September 22, the conditions were hot and sunny. Since the JV race and other flights took place first, it was extremely hot when the gun went off for the Varsity competition. Even though the course had no shelter or shade at any point, several Lady Raiders had outstanding days.
Sophomore Elle Mezzio withstood two strong challenges to capture second place in the race with a time of 20:30. Lizzie Smith continued her strong Senior campaign finishing 17th overall. Sophomore Tori Williams gave notice that she expects to be back in the Varsity lineup by posting the fifth best Lady Raider performance while running in the JV race.
Head Coach Isaac Seals was pleased with the results, "We have gotten to the point in the season where we can't worry about injuries and who is going to be in the lineup. We have a good mindset on this team in that whomever lines up on that start line for us is ready to compete and runs hard and I like that."
The Lady Raiders next race is Tuesday afternoon, September 25 at Westminster.
