McDaniel Breaks 17 Minutes in 2nd Place Finish

The Boys Cross Country team traveled to Dellinger Park in Cartersville for the 35th Annual Cass-Cartersville Invitational on Tuesday, October 7, 2014. The Invitational, always held on the first Tuesday in October, is the also the oldest weekday meet in Georgia. This year, 20 teams from across North Georgia enjoyed excellent race conditions.

Although official Varsity team results are pending, early scoring indicates the Raiders finished 7th overall out of 20 teams. The JV finished 8th out of 14 teams.

 

Varsity Notes:  Senior Owen McDaniel had a strong second place finish, breaking 17 minutes for the first time this season (16:55). Mark Shutley (18:50), Alec Nathan (18:50), and Willie Herrigel (18:53) had their best runs of the season. They were all under 19 minutes and placed in the top 50. Shutley and Herrigel finished under 19 minutes for the first time. Rounding out the Varsity scoring was the much-improved Bayne Jarvis (19:25), and Luis Zambrano and Adil Rarbaje also came in under 20 minutes.

 

JV Notes:  Leading the JV scoring were Andrew Ungashick (20th overall, 19:30) and Ben Shaw (22nd, 19:33). Harrison Lipsky, Albert Xiong (best run of the season), Christopher Sprung, Shamar Moore, and Chris Johnson rounded out the scoring. Several in this group are closing in on breaking 21 minutes.
