The Boys Cross Country team opened the 2015 season Saturday, August 22 at Westminster's Kosh Klassic.
Varsity: The Raiders finished sixth out of nine teams. In addition to several strong performances, the team average was 20 seconds faster than last year's results. With the graduation of Owen McDaniel, who was several minutes ahead of the pack last year, the reduced team average time was a very pleasant surprise.
A major reason for the faster times is Junior Jeffrey Edge. He led the Raiders, finishing 26th overall in 20:00. Edge's hard work is paying off. He began last season as the Raiders 23rd runner, however, his Kosh Klassic time this year was more than seven minutes faster than last year's. Seniors Mark Shutley, Trey Dotson, and Willie Herrigel; Sophomores Andrew Ungashick and Luis Zambrano; and Freshman Erick Ramirez rounded out the top seven, with only 68 seconds separating the seven runners.
JV: The JV team finished fourth out of nine teams. Baxter Shirey led the JV, finishing 20th overall in 22:06. Myles White had a great day as the JV's 2nd runner finishing 29th overall with a PR of 22:39 (4:30 better than last year). The Kosh Klassic is the toughest course of the year, so a PR is very unexpected. Rounding out the top seven JV were Richard Lea, Ethan Hunt, Sam Miller, Max Derrick, and William Madden.
Next on the schedule is another meet at Westminster. The race starts at 5:45pm on Tuesday, August 25. The Varsity and JV run together. Tuesday's course starts just outside the stadium and finishes on the track in the stadium. The course is very spectator friendly.
