The Boys Cross Country team returned to Westminster on Tuesday afternoon, August 25 for a dual meet. With perfect weather (low humidity) and nice crowd support, several Raiders set personal records.
Varsity
Mark Shutley, who ran well on Saturday at the Kosh Klassic despite being a little sick, showed what he could do feeling 100%. He went out with the Wildcat's top five runners. Although he gave up some ground in the second mile, dropping as far back as 12th, he regained his stride and came back in the last mile to finish 10th overall. His 18:33 time was a full minute faster than he ran on this course last year. Jeffrey Edge continued his impressive season breaking 19 minutes for the first time (18:58). Following Edge were Trey Dotson and Luis Zambrano. Willie Herrigel's 19.28 rounded out the top five Raiders. Andrew Ungashick and Reece Bernard both came in under 20:00 to notch varsity finishes.
JV
Benny Soran led the JV with a 20:36 time. The rest of the JV top seven were Christopher Sprung, Myles White, Baxter Shirey, Bayne Jarvis, Max Derrick, and Chandler Arney.
Jeffrey wasn't the only PR on the day among the returning runners. Myles White ran 20:47. He had never run under 22:00; additionally, his 10th place finish was his highest team finish. Chandler Arney ran 22:29, his first time under 23:00.
The next event is the Saucony Battle of Atlanta on Saturday, August 29th at Nash Farms Battlefield in Hampton.
