Boys XC at Jackson County Invitational

The Boys Cross Country team participated in the Jackson County Invitational Tuesday afternoon, October 13, 2015. The track at Crow's Lake in Jefferson is a true cross country course. It has multiple terrains, hills, a stream crossing, and a little mud. Even with the tougher conditions, the Raiders had a solid day and brought home a little hardware.

Varsity notes:
Mark Shutley led the Raider charge going out with the chase pack behind two very fast Johnson High School runners. Throughout the race, Shutley alternated between 4th and 6th places; he ended up crossing the finish line in 5th place. His medal was the only hardware the Raiders brought home from the Invitational.

In constrast with previous races, the Raider pack was a little more strung out at Crow's Lake. Jeffrey Edge finished 26th while Andrew Ungashick and Erick Ramirez made late charges to finish 34th and 40th. Willie Herrigel and Baxter Shirey were together from the start and finished 41st and 42nd. Luis Zambrano (67th) and Reece Bernard (80th) rounded out the Varsity runners. The team finished 5th out of 13 teams.

JV notes:
Continuing their successful season, the JV finished 2nd out of 10 teams. Nasir Muhammad had a furious last mile to finish 10th overall (and had the Raiders' 7th fastest time of the day). Bayne Jarvis was right behind him for 11th overall. Coming in 14th and 15th were Gerardo Camacho and Myles White, respectively. Rounding out the top seven were Chris Sprung, Mitchell Davidson, and Juan Gasperin.

The next meet is Saturday, October 17 at Roper Park in Jasper. The Varsity runs at 9am; JV at 10:15am. This is the last meet before the October 28th Region 7-AAAAA meet. Several runners are battling for the last spot on Varsity, adding some intensity to the JV races.
