The Boys and Girls Cross Country teams kicked off the 2016 season Saturday morning, August 13. The Raiders ran the Battle of Sandy Springs, a 3200 meter time trial, at Holy Innocents'.
Senior Jeffrey Edge led the Raiders with a time of 10:38, which was the second fastest overall behind Ben Davies of Holy Innocents'.
Junior Luis Zambrano had a huge surge in the final 100 meters to finish just behind Edge in third place at 10:39. Following in a tight bunch were Erick Ramirez, Nasir Muhammad, and Andrew Ungashick claiming the 6th through 8th spots.
First year Head Coach Zach McKeone was pleased with the results. "This is the first time we have been able to see our boys in a competitive situation this year, and I think we have a lot of depth. I was really pleased to see that seven of our fastest 17 today were freshmen. If they keep developing and can push the upperclassmen we will surprise a lot of teams this year."
The Raiders return to the trails Saturday, August 20 when they travel to Douglasville for a Pre-region meet at Boundary Waters Park.
