Many PR's for Boys XC at Early Bird Meet

The Girls and Boys Cross Country teams headed to McIntosh Nature Preserve to compete in the Bob Blastow Early Bird meet on Saturday, August 27, 2016. The Raiders finished seventh, besting 25 other teams from across the state in their heat. Senior Jeffrey Edge led the Raider harriers with a new PR of 17:21 to finish 18th out of 154 runners.

The McIntosh Nature Preserve Course let the boys show their speed as new career PR's were set by Junior Luis Zambrano (17:53), Junior Erick Ramirez (18:13), Junior Ace Muhammad (18:41), Junior Justin Coleman (19:12), Freshman Harry Mere (19:20 JV race), Freshman Rafa Kennett (19:32), Freshman Mick McQuary (19:52), Freshman Josh Peljovich (20:06), and Sophomore Mitchell Davidson (20:38). Just missing a PR by five seconds was a strong effort from Andrew Ungashick (18:25).

Head Coach Zach McKeone was jacked-up about the team's performance, "I keep talking about our Top 10 and how great they are doing, but they really are competing hard. The bus rolled into the park without much time for warm ups and the boys just buckled down and took care of business. We are getting better each week at running, but I already like where we are on mental toughness. This team doesn't just run, they all race. Jeffrey [Edge] is off to a great start this season and everyone else is pushing each other to make us better. Now I'm going to up my game as a coach and push them even more at practice. I know they can handle it because they have that edge and they want to win. And I see that mentality in the JV and Open races too, we pass a lot of people in the last quarter mile, and you do that with toughness not speed."
