Zambrano Leads Raiders at Double Dip

Saturday, September 10 was another warm sunny day for the Boys Cross Country team as they traveled to Marist for the 2016 Coach Benson Double Dip Invitational.

Junior Luis Zambrano (18:38) led a closely bunched group of Raiders across the finish line. Immediately behind him were Sophomore Erick Ramirez (18:46) and Junior Andrew Ungashick (18:52). Freshman Harry Mehre (19:29) had his best finish of the season, followed by Junior Justin Coleman (19:53) and Sophomore Raffa Kennett (20:04). Ace Muhammed was having a great race until the final mile. As Muhammed decended a steep hill, a runner pushed him down and he was unable to finish due to his injuries.

Head Coach Zach McKeone had mixed emotions on the day. "I hate to lose anytime to anyone, and today regional rival Grady beat us. The guys we had today ran great, and if we get everyone healthy and in our starting lineup I think we will be fine. What happened to Ace was unfortunate, but the boys will learn from it. I've said several times that we are very mentally tough. Well I know we are also physically one of the toughest teams in the state, and our team is learning that Cross Country can be a contact sport. There is shoving, elbows get thrown, and people get spiked in a crowded race. I want our boys ready to give just as good as they take from now on."
