Edge Leads Boys XC at Wingfoot Classic

The Boys Cross Country team traveled to Cartersville Saturday, September 24 for the 2016 Wingfoot Classic.

On an extremely hot and sunny morning, Senior Jeffrey Edge led the Raiders to a 17th place finish in the 39-team Varsity Open division. Temperature at race time was 80 degrees. Edge completed the course in 18:04, with Junior Andrew Ungashick right on his heels (18:23). Following in quick succession were Sophomore Erick Ramirez (18:59), Freshman Harry Mehre (19:04), and Junior Nasir Muhammed (19:08).

By the time the JV runners lined up, the temperature was already at 85 degrees. Race officials, in the interest of runner safety, shortened the JV event to a 3-kilometer race.

Head Coach Zach McKeone commented, "Our Varsity ran well again; it was a crowded race and they hung very tough. I felt bad for the JV boys because their race got shortened and several of them are competing for the 6-7 spots on Varsity. We got our first look at Decatur today and Sam Ellis is definitely the individual favorite from our Region. Between Decatur, Grady, Lithia Springs, North Springs, and ourselves it is going to be a heck of a battle for the region championship next month."
