The Boys Cross Country team traveled to Carrollton on Friday, November 3rd for the 2017 Class AAAAA State Championship. The harriers grabbed a top ten team finish edging out Region rival Decatur for 9th place.
Senior Andrew Ungashick capped an outstanding XC career with a 34th place individual finish (18:01) over the difficult course. The Varsity boys had a strong team effort and crossed the finish line in the following order: Freshman Eli Hoppenfield (45th), Junior Erick Ramirez (54th), Freshman Cody Kaplan (60th), Junior Alex Gruenig (117th), Sophomore Mick McQuary (174th), and Sophomore Harry Mehre (197th).
Head Coach Zach McKeone was very happy with the performance. "Coming off a third place finish in the Region, I didn't know what to expect. But Friday morning at 9am the boys lined up at the starting line, ran exactly how they were supposed to run, and busted into the top ten in AAAAA. Overall, we had a very good year and competed with the best teams in the state. If we continuously make improvements and put in the hard work necessary, the sky is the limit for this team."
