Congratulations to the Volleyball team for defeating Kell in the second round of the 2017 State Class AAAAA Tournament. The Lady Raiders hosted Kell on Tuesday, October 17 in the Sweet 16 matchup and beat the Lady Longhorns in three straight sets: 25-16, 25-10, and 25-14.
The Lady Raiders advance to the Elite Eight and play Whitewater on Saturday afternoon, October 21. The match begins at 12pm in Fayetteville (100 Wildcat Way, Fayetteville, 30215 map). The Lady Wildcats entered the State Tournament as the #3 seed from Area 3-AAAAA.
At the conclusion of the second round, the GHSA re-seeded the remaining teams: the Lady Raiders are the #5 seed and Whitewater is the #4 seed in the Elite Eight.
The Lady Raiders are making their fourth consecutive appearance in the State Tournament, and advance to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2009.
State Tournament Notes:
As the Area 6-AAAAA Champs, the Lady Raiders earned a #1 seed and the right to host the first round of the State Class AAAAA Tournament.
Dutchtown, the #4 seed from Area 4-AAAAA, claimed the first match in the best of three format 25-20. The Lady Raiders settled down and took the next three matches 25-11, 25-9, and 25-8 to advance to the second round.
Kell, the #3 seed from Area 7-AAAAA, traveled to Sandy Springs for the second round of the tournament. The Lady Raiders beat the Lady Longhorns in three straight sets: 25-16, 25-10, and 25-14.
