Assistant Coach Desmond Atwell joined the Raider staff as an Assistant Baseball Coach in 2000. A native of Decatur, Georgia, Coach Atwell came to Riverwood after coaching several travel baseball teams in the metro area. Atwell joined the Raider faculty in 2016. In 2017-18, Atwell added the 9th Grade Boys Basketball team head coaching job to his responsibilities.

An accomplished infielder while at Southwest Dekalb in the early 1990’s, Coach Atwell earned All-County honors as a second baseman after hitting .467 as a junior. He followed up that season by winning the Gold Glove and MVP team awards as a senior.

Coach Atwell earned a scholarship and attended Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN. He then transferred to Thomas College, now Thomas University, in Thomasville, GA, to complete his playing career. Coach Atwell holds a Bachelors Degree in Sociology.
