In the final regular season contest of the 2017-18 season, the Varsity Boys Basketball team celebrated Senior Night in grand fashion by hammering the visiting Decatur Bulldogs by a score of 71-50.
With all five seniors on the floor to start the Friday, February 2nd game, the Raiders rushed out on a quick 7-0 run and finished the first quarter up 17-4. From that moment, Head Coach Buck Jenkins was able to play a nice mix of players to build a 29-18 lead at the half. By the end of the third, the Raiders were ahead 58-31 and coasted to the final horn.
It was a great night to celebrate the Class of 2018 basketball players: Jordan Coleman, Rudy Fitzgibbons, Nasir Muhammad, Christian Sutton, and Julian Walker. Each of the graduates finished with points and significant time on the court. Even the bench was cheering as several seniors attempted three-point shots for the first time of the season.
Sutton led all scorers with 17 points and Junior Davis Herndon was right behind him with 16. Both Sutton and Herdon were lighting up from three-point range. Senior Rudy Fitzgibbons notched 13 points; Sophomore Nathan Henderson scored 10 points and had a team high 5 rebounds.
The Raiders now move into the Region 6-AAAAA tournament at Lithia Springs. They finished the regular season with a 13-1 Region record, percentage points behind the #1 Jackson Jaguars. Holding the second place seed, the Raiders have a bye until Friday night's play. Game time Friday, February 9th at Lithia Springs is 5:30pm vs. TBA (depending on the outcome of first round contests).
