Raiders Clinch 2016 State Basketball Berth

The Boys Basketball team clinched a spot in the 2016 State Playoffs with Wednesday's 58-38 victory over North Atlanta in the Region 7-AAAAA Tournament. Forsyth Central High School is hosting the 2016 Boys and Girls Region 7-AAAAA Basketball Tournaments.

The Raiders, seeded #1 in the Region Tournament, faced North Atlanta on Wednesday afternoon February 10 in the quarterfinal round. It was the third time this season for the Warriors and Raiders to play. In early January, playing at home, the Raiders won 75-44. On January 30, playing at North Atlanta, the Raiders again soundly defeated the Warriors, 54-29. The Raiders needed to beat the Warriors to advance to the State tournament. Knowing the region tournament atmosphere intensifies the neighborhood rivalry, the Raiders could not afford to be too confident.

The victory guarantees a State Playoff berth; seeding will depend on how the Raiders finish the Region Tournament. Next up for the Raiders are the Kell Longhorns on Friday, February 12. During the season, the Raiders won both the regular region matchups against the Longhorns. The Raiders and Longhorns also tangled in the final game of the 2015 Lake City Classic on December 30. The Raiders won 50-40 to finish 3rd in the holiday tournament.

Friday's tip off vs. Kell is 8:30pm at Forsyth Central High School. The final day of the Region Tournament is Saturday, February 13; the Raiders will play at either 4:30 or 8pm vs. TBA.
