The Varsity Boys Basketball team opened their season with a road win at Holy Innocents' Tuesday evening, November 15 and continued their winning ways in the first home game of the year Friday night, November 18.
Even though it was the last day of school before the week-long Thanksgiving break, plenty of students were still in town to pack the gym. With the crowd adding to the frenzied atmosphere, the Raiders thrashed the visiting Mt. Vernon Mustangs 71-36. After jumping out to an early 9-0 lead, the Raiders never looked back. Senior point guard Charnchai Chantha was his usual slash-and-dish self handing out seven assists to go with his game-high 16 points. Senior Josh Brown added 14 points and 9 rebounds while Junior Rudy Fitzgibbons had 10 points and 7 steals.
The stats reflected the Raider domination: they scorched the nets at 63% from 3-point range and 68% from inside the arc. Every player who dressed for the game scored; it was a great team effort.
Next on the schedule, the Raiders travel to Commerce for the Tanger Thanksgiving Tournament hosted by East Jackson Comprehensive High School Monday, November 21 and Tuesday, November 22. The next home game is also during the Thanksgiving break vs. Blessed Trinty Saturday, November 26 at 5pm.
