Varsity Boys Basketball Beats North Springs

The Varsity Boys Basketball team improved to 8-1 on the season with a big 67-62 home win against cross-town rival North Springs on Tuesday, December 6, 2016.

In addition to the large crowds the neighborhood rivalry traditionally generates, the Raiders also welcomed members of the 2016 Boys Soccer State Championship team, as well as members of the Junior Raiders Basketball team visiting for Junior Raider Night. During a special halftime ceremony, the Boys Soccer team received their State Championship rings from last spring's victory.

The region contest vs. the Spartans was another back-and-forth affair with the loud Raider fans adding to the electric atmosphere. Although the Raiders had some early shooting woes, they settled into a rhythm and managed to build a one point lead by halftime. After the Raiders steadily built a ten point margin during the third period, the Spartans came back to play a tenacious final quarter, falling short by only five points. The Raiders won the first meeting of the home/away series 67-62 and travel to North Springs for a rematch January 20, 2017.

Senior Elijah Jenkins put on his usual shooting clinic finishing with 10 assists and 26 points on 9-13 from the field. Junior Elijah Dudley added 17 points and Junior Nasir Muhammad, filling in for the injured Josh Brown, contributed a big 13 points and 11 rebounds. Muhammad was a force inside; he protected the rim with several outstanding shot blocks and timely baskets.

Next, the Raiders travel to play at Grady on Friday night, December 9th. Tip off is 7pm.
