The Varsity Boys Basketball team made it two wins in a row with an exciting 63-56 victory over Banneker at home on Tuesday night, November 28. Move importantly, the game marked the first in 2017-18 Region 6-AAAAA competition.
Up by ten at the half and leading for most of the game, the Raiders saw their lead evaporate in the final two minutes of the game. When the Trojans grabbed a brief 54-53 edge, the Raiders re-focused. With their hegemonic prowess from the charity stripe, the Raiders closed out the contest by knocking down their final eight free throws. The 63-56 win brings their record to 4-3 on the season.
Once again, Senior Rudy Fitzgibbons led all scorers. He had 28 points and was 7-8 from the free throw line. Junior Davis Herndon added 16 points and shot 5-5 from the stripe. Seniors Christian Sutton and Nasir Muhammad collected seven rebounds each. The impressive 85% (17-20) success at the free throw line certainly contributed to the positive outcome.
The Raiders are in travel mode for the next three contests: at Jackson on December 1, a non-region contest at 7A opponent Grayson on December 2, and returning to region play against cross-town rival North Springs on December 5. The next, and only December home game, is a region match-up vs. Grady on December 8.
