After having two games cancelled due to the memorable "December 2017 Snow," the Varsity Boys Basketball team resumed play Tuesday evening December 12 on the road at Carver. Even having had a week between games, the Raiders remained hot and brought home a decisive 54-39 win.
With star point guard Rudy Fitzgibbons nursing a leg injury, the Raiders found themselves having to split his duties and find points from other players. It took a while for each team to find their rhythm at the start and, at the end of the first period, the score was knotted at 12. In the second period, the Panthers took a brief 18-17 lead; however, the Raiders exploded with a 10-0 run to go ahead 27-18 at the half. Hot shooting through the third quarter built a daunting 42-26 margin, and the Raiders never looked back. Coach Jenkins was able to go deep on the bench in the final period, giving all players plenty of court time in the 54-39 Region 6-AAAAA victory.
Junior Davis Herndon led the Raider scoring; he went 8-12 and racked up 19 points. Junior Jaylen Edwards contributed 11 points. Senior Christian Sutton pulled down a game high eight rebounds.
With the win, the Raiders move to 6-5 on the season and will take their two game winning streak into the Westminster Christmas Tournament. The three-day tournament begins Thursday, December 28 and concludes Saturday, December 30.
