Two Big Region Wins for Varsity Boys Basketball

The Varsity Boys Basketball team is in the final stretch of Region 6-AAAAA play and, following two decisive wins on January 23 and 26, is in second place in the standings.

On Tuesday, January 23, 2018, the Raiders traveled to Grady and won 62-48.
The game was clearly the story of two halves, as Raiders struggled to produce points in the first, but came on strong in the second. Fortunately, excellent defense and strong rebounding kept the game close in the first half and the Raiders went into the locker room with a 20-19 halftime advantage over the Grady Knights. At halftime, Coach Jenkins must have had "something" to say, because a more focused Raider team stormed the court for the third quarter. Rudy Fitzgibbons, Davis Herndon, and Korbin Lane each hit critical three-pointers in the quarter, and Nathan Henderson, Jared Nalls, Christian Sutton, and Jordan Coleman stormed the boards. But, the Raiders saved the best for last, as they exploded for 25 points in the fourth quarter. Fitzgibbons and Sutton combined for 20 points, 80% of the fourth quarter point production, and everyone got involved defensively. Top scorers were Fitzgibbons with 24 points, Sutton with 14, and Herndon with 8.

Raiders beat Carver 95-54 on Friday, January 26, 2018.
The Varsity Boys Basketball team extended their win streak to four games with a punishing 95-54 win over visiting Carver. The home crowd was loud as the Raiders put on an offensive show with their highest score total this season. Although the game was close early, the Raiders found their rhythm in the second quarter and never looked back. Senior Christian Sutton came out blistering hot and poured in 15 points in the opening quarter. He was thrillingly accurate (5-6) beyond the three-point arc; it seemed as if everything he looked at went in! The rest of the team came alive, too. By the end of the game, five Raiders scored in double figures. Sutton lead the way with 16; Juniors Jalen Edwards and Davis Herndon added 13 each. Senior Rudy Fitzgibbons and Sophomore Nathan Henderson each tallied 12 points. Coach Jenkins was able to play everyone who dressed out for multiple minutes, including three players from pulled up from the  JV and 9th grade teams.

The Raiders host first place Jackson on Saturday, January 27 in a game that will decide seeding for the upcoming Region 6-AAAAA tournament.
